Red Velvet Events Purchases Standalone Retail Building for New Headquarters Office

AUSTIN, Texas – January 3, 2017 – Austin-based Red Velvet Events, a Global DMC Partner, has acquired a vacant Austin retail building and is converting it into creative office space for its headquarters. The company purchased an 11,579-square-foot building at 7121 North Lamar Boulevard that formerly housed Texas Discount Furniture.

In the original hunt for larger office space, a location in north central Austin was key, though few leasing options were available in the 5,000-square-foot size range needed. When owner Cindy Lo was presented with an opportunity to purchase rather than lease, her colleagues and friends were supportive.

“All of the pieces started to click—it’s an opportunity to revitalize an empty building in my neighborhood and truly own the design and feel of my company’s workspace. The prominent address on North Lamar is the cherry on top,” said Lo, who founded Red Velvet Events in 2002.

Red Velvet Events has hired architect Scott Magic of MAGIC Architecture and DKC Construction Group for the project. Lo’s vision for the building includes changing the red brick façade to an all-glass front to let in more natural light and turning a back parking area, dubbed the “backyard,” into a comfortable space to work.

The company is targeting late 2017 to move 25 employees from its current office at Plaza 7000 (7000 North Mopac Expressway).

Eric DeJernett and John Heffington of CBRE represented the seller, ALP Lamar, LLC. Chad Jewell of Austin Office Space represented Red Velvet Events (RVE).
